IFS Therapy

What is IFS?
Internal family Systems (IFS) is a non-pathologizing, evidence-based psychotherapy developed by Richard A. Schwartz. It is an integrative approach that suggests that every person has a system of inner parts that are led by a core Self. The underlying concept of this theory is that there are protective parts living within us that fulfill both healthy and unhealthy roles.
Life events or trauma, can force us into extreme roles. Perhaps they ensured behaviors that once served to protect, but are now maladaptive. Thankfully these wounded internal parts can heal with time and work, once they are encountered.
The goal of IFS therapy is to bring balance to all of the parts by accessing compassion, curiosity, clarity, creativity, calm, confidence, courage, and connectedness (the 8 Cs) through their relationship with Self.
This modality integrates easily with EMDR, and is often used in tandem.
